Launching Arabah
“The land that was desolate and impassable shall be glad, and the wilderness [arabah] shall rejoice.” (Isaiah 35:1)
We will all go to the desert at some point in our lives – its that space we're travelling through to the promise of something better. The desert is dangerous and disorienting. It is also beautiful and mysterious… and it’s a rich metaphor for seasons that we all experience in our lives. It can in fact be a metaphor for life itself.
This year I'm embarking on a bit of a journey and launching the creation of new body of work called “Arabah, A visual and spiritual journey into the desert.”
Using the landscape of the American Southwest as a muse, Arabah will ultimately culminate in an art exhibition of hundreds of paintings, drawings and sketches that explore the mystical, metaphorical and breathtaking beauty of desert places.
My daughter Jamie, a photographer and budding filmmaker, is coming along for the ride. We plan to release a short film and a large format coffee table art book/devotional to share the haunting yet life-changing beauty of the desert with others.
Come away to the wilderness and discover beauty and meaning in those dry, arid, seasons of wandering and wondering.
