Arabah is an art project that seeks to help weary pilgrims discover beauty and hope in arid seasons of wandering.
We all go to the desert at some point in our lives - that space we travel through to the promise
of something better. Both the harsh realities and the mysterious beauty of the desert have a
transformative effect on someone. A season in the desert changes you.
Using the landscape of the American Southwest as a muse, Arabah will be an exploration of the mystical, metaphorical and breathtaking beauty of desert places in search of the possible blessings it holds out for us. It will loosely follow the narrative arc of the exodus story. Seasons spent wandering in “the desert” are undoubtedly and, perhaps, necessarily challenging. But I want to share the beauty of the desert with people too. I hope it will encourage anyone who finds themself in such a place.
My daughter Jamie, an aspiring filmmaker, has joined me on this project. We envision a collection of hundreds of paintings, drawings, sketches, and filmed scenes which will result in
An art exhibition
A coffee table book/devotional
A short film
We invite you to come away to the wilderness and discover beauty, hope and encouragment for a season of wandering.
